You liked Metal Slug 1, right? Run and gun craziness with gorgeous animation and music. Who doesn't love that?
Well, then you might have played Metal Slug 2 and thought... this is great, but boy is it too slow.
Just way too many intense amounts of animation on screen at once, causing a lot of chugging.
So forget Metal Slug 2; you should try Metal Slug X, which is almost identical to 2, but without the slowdown, and slightly remixed in terms of content.
And, I mean, it just has the vastly cooler name. Who doesn't love “X”?
I guess one could confuse it as Metal Slug 10, with X being the roman numeral for 10... but it's not.
I think it's called “X” because... well, honestly I don't why, I bet it's just cause it sounds cool. And honestly, that's enough reason for me. Better than “Metal Slug 2 but better!” or “Metal Slug 2... again!”
Released in 1999, it attempted to right the technical wrongs of 2 using the updated game engine from Metal Slug 3.
How nice of SNK, knowing that arcade goers would definitely want to play through the game and spend on playthroughs if it wasn't slowing down to the point of being a power-point presentation.
Yes, in a time before huge overhaul patches that could be downloaded from online networks, SNK had to just release a whole new product to sort out the issues with Metal Slug 2.
And I'm glad they did, cause Metal Slug X is pretty awesome. And more than worth checking out.
