Like so many classic cocktails. Their origins are somewhat blurry or lost in time. The Democrat newspaper remarked in 1882 that, “It is but a short time ago that a mixture of whiskey, vermouth, and bitters came into vogue”. It is known that this cocktail came about in Manhattan Club in NYC. This cocktail has also been known as the Turf Club cocktail, Jockey Club cocktail, but today we all know it as a Manhattan cocktail.

A good cocktail consists of various important things. We use our taste, smell, and sight senses in cocktails. So, while the recipe, technique, and ingredients you use in your drink are important, you can argue that the garnish is equally important. Recipe:
Cherries:
1lb (455g) Fresh Organic Sour Cherries
4 Cinnamon sticks
2 Star anise
4 Cloves
Juice of 1 Lemon + 1-2 peel
1 Orange peel
1 1/4 cup (296ml) Spirit
1/2 cup (118ml) Filtered Water
2 cups (400g) Demerara sugar
MANHATTAN:
2oz (60ml) Overproof Whiskey
1oz (30ml) Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
