After Samurai Shodown V Special, at least one developer at SNK thought the game needed one more revision, so they secretly made a new revision that added in some more story, and added story screens that tell you the proper way to finish off the bosses. Samurai Shodown V Perfect was put on location test, the higher ups at SNK demanded it be cancelled since they were ready to move on from the Neo-Geo and were focusing on Samurai Shodown 6 for the Atomiswave, so the game never saw the light of day... until 2020, when the game rom was dumped and added to Digital Eclipse's Samurai Shodown Collection. It's really not TOO different of an experience from Special (gameplay all seems to be identical, felt like Mizuki's AI was slightly different but maybe I just had bad luck), so the two games were ranked together for the sake of the list.
