A Tasmanian artist has colourised historical photographs, ranging from well-known images of the thylacine to a mysterious picture of an elephant pulling a cart through central Hobart.

He says the process is not meant to "improve" the image, but rather show the audience they are "not that different from people hundreds of years ago".
