A stately English country house tall case or grandfather clock was hand crafted in the later Georgian period about 1800.
Oak and mahogany, the case is well proportioned, with inlaid satinwood banding and fluted columns. The old finish has warm patina and is in very fine condition, with shrinkage separations and minor mars for antique character.
There are touchups to the dial, which appears to have its original hand painting with birds. The moon dial with a clipper ship also appears original, as there is no underpainting where there are chips.
Professionally cleaned and oiled, the eight day brass movement keeps accurate time and strikes the hour. The only signature we can find on this historic time piece is on the bell, engraved "Gainsworth Warr(e)n." A modern winding crank is included.
Dimensions of this beautiful and understated furniture are 24" wide, 10" deep and 7' 2" tall to the top of the finial on the pediment.
