Karwar is a beautiful scenic town in the Uttara Kannada district of the Indian state of Karnataka. Extremely beautiful, the city is famous for a number of temples, forts and beaches. Karwar is located about 15 km south of the border of Karnataka and Goa, and it’s around 520 kilometres from Bangalore.

Rabindranath Tagore beach is one of the most popular tourist places in Karwar, here you can have the mesmerising view of the Arabian sea. There are many other touristy spots near the beach, including Warship Museum and Rock Garden.
You can also explore the recreational park, aquarium, and planetarium situated near Rabindranath Tagore beach. The beach is just next to the main highway, which connects the city to Goa.
INS Chapal was an active warship with Indian navy and the star of naval warfare during the 1971 India Pakistan war. INS Chapal was responsible for bombarding Karachi Port and enforcing naval blockade in Arabian Sea during 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Crew of INS Chapal won 2 Param Veer Chakras and 8 Veer Chakras, some of the highest military honours in our country. The warship was Commissioned in 4th November 1976 and Decommissioned in 5th May 2005.
The 245 tons warship had a speed of 37 knots, with loaded weapons like 30 mm anti-aircraft guns and surface to air missiles. You can experience the interiors of INS Chapal, the engine room and the uniform of our Brave soldiers.
Rock Garden in Karwar is just next to the Rabindranath Tagore beach. Rocks found while four-lining of the Mangalore-Panaji highway have been carved into creative shapes.
It’s showcases the lifestyle of Uttara Kannada district. Once can experience the lifestyle of the tribal people of Uttara Kannada, lifestyle of fishermen and many more have been created.
Models are very well made and are life-like structures. Fishermen family structure and crocodile structure at the entrance are among the main attractions here. The Rock Garden can be visited from 9:30 AM - 7:30 PM at the cost of 30 rupees per person.
