This is a loose demo of some sounds I programmed so far on the GR-55. Check out the Roland US website for details and videos:

I am still in the programming phase of it all, so I am still just checking out a lot of different possibilities. One thing for sure is that they have improved the tracking dramatically from earlier generations of guitar synthesis. Case in point, I have this old GK-2A pickup mounted on my Tacoma and it tracks great. I also have the new GK-3 pickup mounted on my 12-year-old Taylor 314-CE acoustic guitar it it tracks beautifully. I am, however, NOT trying to play a lot of fast stuff. I mainly want it for textural pads - what I call "landscape" sounds. Emotive, moody, spacy, soothing... I am excited for the potential of this system for onstage application. It's the first time in decades I have felt confident enough in the technology's tracking and stability to take it onstage. It's a work-in-progress. I will post more video soon that will be more focused and polished. This one was just for fun. A practice run... (Feel free to contact me with any questions about guitar synth in general. I have been at it for 30+ years now - since the Roland GR-300 [Pat Metheny signature sound] was current. I wish I OWNED one of those! Oh well...)
BTW, any of you into playing guitar at church for worship, this guitar synth thing is awesome. You can get very powerful emotive pad sounds happening behind the straight guitar sound. It really is great in that context.
