Dr. Fischetti studies how gram-positive bacteria interact with human tissues and cause disease. His lab produces lysins that kill major gram-positive pathogens — Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis and Bacillus anthracis. Using phage lytic enzymes as a tool, Dr. Fischetti's lab has developed and patented methods of eradicating biofilms which contribute to chronic bacterial diseases.
