In celebration of October and the spooky season, I am starting a new series called “Freaky Friday” where every Friday of October, I will post a new video of me body swapping with a “halloweeny” character. In other words, watch me do my makeup and get into cosplay and learn how I do it!

This is as much a two-part tutorial on how to transform into the Beldam, the sinister and manipulative true form of the Other Mother, and the deceptive form of the Other Mother; as it is a twisted tribute to the eerie side of Halloween. If you’re unfamiliar, the Other Mother is a deceptive, shape-shifting figure who lures children with promises of a perfect world, only to trap them in her web. She exudes a false sense of warmth and love, but behind her button eyes lies a hunger for control and a deeply unsettling darkness. In Coraline, she ensnares the young heroine with her charm, only to reveal her true, terrifying nature. I took inspiration from the haunting 2009 film, and I think I’ve captured her chilling essence pretty well! Let’s weave some unsettling wonder, shall we?
