The Hidden Incision Endoscopic Surgery (HIdES) robotic port placement technique involves placement of the robotic trocars in areas where visible scarring won't be seen, such as below the belt line. The relative laxity of the pediatric abdominal wall, combined with the ability of the robotic system to maintain slight traction on the trocars throughout the case without sacrificing dexterity, allows judicious placement of the laparoscopic ports low on the anterior abdomen, which are then subsequently translated superiorly during the case with instruments in place. HIdES port placement offers advantages over single-port surgery in that instrument triangulation is maintained. In this video we demonstrate the HIdES technique for extravesical robotic ureteral reimplantation, and illustrate the excellent cosmetic results that are possible.
