CINCINNATI (Sydney Benter) -- There's no cure, but a local family is trying to change the outcome for their 4-year-old daughter with a rare genetic disorder. Local 12 News first met Abigail Means July 2015. She's battling Sanfilippo syndrome, a terminal disease that affects development. Her family hosted a silent auction at Drees Pavilion in Devou Park Thursday night, August 27, and hundreds of people came out to show their support. "It's amazing to find out how many people love you and how many people don't know something so rare is going on. We have a huge network that's really supportive," says Jen Means, Abigail's mother. About 0,000 worth of items were up for auction. All of the proceeds will go toward finding a cure for Sanfilippo syndrome. Means says researchers are working on a promising trial right now in Columbus. To donate to the cause, visit the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation or visit the family's GoFundMe page to help cover costs associated with Abigail's care.
