Hes Relentless’ victory in the Hobbs America Derby culminated an eventful week for jockey Cody Jensen and a two-year pursuit for the 3-year-old colt’s first stakes victory. Injured while riding at Los Alamitos in Southern California on September 28, Jensen had surgery in Oklahoma for a broken collarbone on September 30 and piloted Hes Relentless to a commanding 1 1/2-length win in the $175,121 Grade 3 race in Hobbs, New Mexico five days later. As the 1-2 favorite and fastest qualifier in the field of nine, Hes Relentless covered 440 yards in 21.222 seconds in winning his first futurity or derby final in his fifth attempt, four of them carrying purses of more than $1 million.
