Winter road — a road, the exploitation of which is only possible in winter conditions, with temperatures below zero. For winter the snow is compacted and raked graders, rivers traditionally freeze ice crossing. The winter road may also be placed directly on the frozen ice of rivers and lakes.
Winter roads are widely distributed in Siberia and the far North, in the swampy regions, in areas where there are no bridges across the numerous streams and rivers, and in other hard to reach T. p. conditions.
Often the roads are used to deliver cargo and equipment to the oil and gas fields, and especially for the removal of heavy and inaccessible forests.
