New Regulations for Minimum Recharge Across All Telecom Operators in India.
On December 23, 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) introduced the "Telecom Consumers Protection (Twelfth Amendment) Regulations, 2024" and the "Telecommunication Tariff (Seventieth Amendment) Order, 2024" to enhance affordability and flexibility for mobile users across the country.
Introduction of Voice and SMS-Only Plans: Telecom operators are now required to offer separate recharge plans exclusively for voice calls and SMS services. This initiative aims to benefit users who do not require data services, such as senior citizens and individuals in rural areas.

Extended Validity for Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs): The validity period for STVs has been increased from a maximum of 90 days to up to 365 days. This extension provides consumers with more flexibility in managing their recharges.

Flexibility in Recharge Denominations: TRAI has removed the restriction that limited top-up vouchers to multiples of ₹10, allowing telecom operators to offer recharge vouchers in any denomination. However, operators must continue to provide at least one ₹10 voucher to ensure accessibility for all users.
