This video is in response to one of the comments that I received in the earlier video. Many philosophy aspirants wonder about their future. Their central question is - what can I become after doing my MA or PhD. In philosophy? When a philosopher who stands in the capitalist world not only understands his/her relevance, but also understands its value in the field of human sciences. So, talking any job that comes into his way is not the choice.
Suppose a philosophers gets an opportunity to work with the government to envisage the vision of the country, and she prefers to follow her philosophical training, most of times she will lose her job. In other words, the world is run by unethical means and false pride. The job of the philosopher is to question these. Think of pushing a needle in anyone’s inflated ego!
If we recall Socrates’ word, “it is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied”, we come up with a vague understanding of a philosopher. Earning is not what we look for, wisdom is our resort. That is the main reason why most of the philosophers demotivated students who think of joining philosophy department in the hope of getting good jobs. Alas! There is none.
However, we don’t die without bread as well. So, here are a few possible opportunities for a philosopher. Do check them out!
Thanks for your valuable time!
