Does Anything Work Anymore? Central Line service disruption and FAILED train!
A sort of Sights & Sounds video showing the current state of the Central Line in March 2024.
The Central Line's 1992 Stock trains which are over 30 years old are quickly deteriorating due to a lack of spares causing many trains to fail and break down. Although there are older trains on the Underground system, the 1992 Stock are semi unique as they were built by British Rail. This means the equipment fitted to these trains is rather different compared with other Tube Stock, when a train breaks down they can't get them back out on the line as quickly as they would like. At the moment there is a refurbishment of the 1992 Stock which will see the trains fitted with new seats, LED lighting, wheelchair spaces, passenger information screens and a new AC traction system. This refurbishment known as CLIP has been an ongoing process for 5 years now. The first unit has began some trials on the Western end of the Central Line and the first are expected to go into full operation sometime this Summer.
I travelled on the Eastern end of the line to see how bad the service is, there where many speed restrictions and sometimes 20 minute gaps between trains. But it really kicked off when the the train I was on broke down!!! We arrived at Loughton and the doors didn't open, we was told by the driver that there was a technician getting on at Leytonstone. When we arrived into Leytonstone the technician attempted multiple times to fix the issue by resetting the train. After sometime the driver had no choice but to take the train out of service.
Hope you all enjoy this one :)
