In this video, Pioneer Field Agronomist Larry Osborne discusses black cutworm pressure he has been seeing in soybean fields. Traditionally thought of as a pest found in corn, the black cutworm will feed on many different types of plants, including cotton, tobacco and soybeans. The best way to scout for cutworm is to inspect plants for feeding, then dig a few up to see if you find any larvae or coleoptile feeding. A rescue treatment of insecticide can help manage the pest if caught early enough, but extensive feeding and infestation, like found in the field in this video, may warrant a replant.
