DescriptionThis DIY video shows how to fix a rotten boat floor. The text book way of replacing the floor is to remove the consoles, seat boxes and remove all the original plywood floor. Then replace the stringers underneath. Then fibreglass the stringers into the hull. Then replace the plywood floor. Then fiberglass the floor. That is a MAJOR job and only worth doing on a boat that has sentimental or major financial value when the restoration is complete. This boat is not worth that kind of effort and the stringers were solid (just the plywood floor was rotten in 1 spot and soft in 1 other spot) so I elected the quick fix method which will still last many, many years.
I used 3/4" pressure treated plywood at a cost of $50 for a 4'X8' sheet. It took 1.7 sheets. Much of the video describes how to easily measure and cut out for the portal... I could see how measuring accurately could be challenging for someone not use to measuring this kind of thing...
Also, I wondered about the extra weight of 2 layers of plywood impacting fuel economy or boat performance. In the end I figured that an extra 100 LBs would not have an impact on a 2000 LB boat and it has an oversize motor anyway.
