The universal motor works on both AC or DC supply and it is used in home appliances like fans mixer grinder refrigerator etc. it has been characterized to have higher power output with the smaller size and starting torque to be high at a lower speed and can carry high loads.
Why universal motor is called universal
The motors which can be used with a single phase AC source as well as a DC source of supply and voltages are called as universal motor. it is also known as single phase series motor.
What is a rotary switch used for
Rotary switches move in a circle and can stop in several positions. they are used to control many different circuits with a single switch.
