"We're in front of the first European pyramid. I mean, we are talking about the monumental dimensions of this pyramid and so far the geological data are showing us that the pyramid is 10,000 to 20,000 years old. So I would say that this finding will have to re-write whole European history."

17. SOUNDBITE: (English) Semir Osmanagic, Explorer:
"Now we can see the first results, we can see the first proofs that the sand stones cover the whole immediate area which is in front of us. And now we are talking about the dimensions 40 by 250 metres. Obviously they are manmade. Now, according to Bosnian history there is no such construction 800, 500 or 2000 years ago. Obviously we're talking about a super civilisation which existed in this immediate area thousands and thousands of years ago."

STORYLINE:
An American explorer of Bosnian origin claims that underneath Mount Visocica, in central Bosnia, lies the first European pyramid - built some 10,000 to 20,000 years ago.
Semir Osmanagic says that geological and archaeological research conducted at the site confirms that an ancient civilisation built a pyramid of the sun and pyramid of the moon, one next to each other near the town of Visoko.
The hills there do resemble the shape of flat-topped pyramids, similar to those found in Latin America, with sides pointing exactly at the points of the compass.
Accompanied by a Bosnian team of archaeologists, Osmanagic says he dug a 18 metres-deep pit and found evidence of the existence of ancient labyrinths and other sand stone buildings which indicate that the hill was once a human settlement.
The team claims that this monumental pyramid will force world scientists to reconsider Europe history.
Osmanagic spent years studying the pyramids of Mexico, Peru and Egypt and maintains that it is possible that back in the Old Stone Age (Palaeolithic) such a developed civilisation existed in southern Europe.
The team of scientists is currently trying to locate ancient stairs that will lead them to the entry of the pyramid.
Osmanagic plans to conduct radar and satellite readings of the area to provide more information on the structure of the ancient building.
