(12 Jul 2017) Malaysia continued with its crackdown on undocumented foreign workers and immigrants early on Wednesday with a raid on a construction site in Port Dickson, just outside the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
At least 77 suspects were detained for various immigration offences according to officials.
Journalists were notified several hours before the raid and invited to come along.
The latest action follows two weeks of intense immigration checks across the country.
Illegal immigration is a major problem in Malaysia, with estimates of 500,000 to more than one million undocumented foreign workers and immigrants said to be in the country.
The majority are from Indonesia and Bangladesh as well as other Southeast Asia countries.
