After a lackluster performance in their home opener the Islanders game out with energy and was in control for most of the game against the Ducks which saw New York net 7 goals. It was the blue line that stepped it up offensively, with 5 of the goals coming from Scotty Mayfield, Noah Dobson, and Robin Salo. Oliver Wahlstrom, who was a scratch in their first game of the season, scored a beautiful breakaway goal on the backhand against Gibson. Lane Lambert wins his first game as full time head coach of the New York Islanders.
