Today on our equipment trailer, we're going to installing the Optronics sealed, 4" round LED trailer stop, turn and tail light, part number STL43RB. Now we'll show you a comparison of the light currently on the trailer and the new Optronics light to give you a better idea of what it will look like. First we'll turn on the running lights, then the brake lights and finally, the turn signal. Now, let's go ahead and change out this old incandescent bulb and install our new LED tail light. In order to get our old light out of the rubber grommet, we're just going to use a flat head screwdriver. Go ahead and slide it in here along the edge; slid it around and worked it out of the old grommet. Now since this grommet is in pretty good shape, we're not going to replace it at this time. You'll see on the back side, it does have a three-wire plug.
Just simply unplug it. Now before we install our new light, we're going to go ahead and wipe out this old grommet and get any dirt and grime out of it first. Now that we have the grommet cleaned up, we found it works best if you use just a little bit of grease around the edge of the grommet as it will allow the new light to slide in just a little bit easier. Just go ahead and smear a thin, light coating of grease around the edge. Now we're ready to install our new LED light. Here's what our new Optronics LED tail light looks like.
You'll notice it has a total of ten little diodes here, six around the outside and four in the middle. The back has the same style three-prong plug, so it matches. Before we can install our new light, we'll need to plug the light in. Now that we've got our connection done, we're going to go ahead and just barely put it in the grommet, just enough, right, to hold it in place. We're going to test the light out before we seat it fully back into the grommet. Now that we're sure all the functions of the light are working properly, we're to go ahead and push our light the rest of the way into the grommet. Go ahead and take our paper towel since we have the light all the way seated.
Wipe off any excess grease that may be on the grommet or on the lens itself and that will do it for our installation of the Optronics sealed, 4" round LED trailer stop, turn and tail light, part number STL43RB. .
