What’s the best cocktail to come out of New Orleans? The Ramos Gin Fizz and the Sazerac are good options, but the clear winner is the Vieux Carre! This is a cocktail inspired by the Manhattan and it was created in 1938 by Walter Bergeron to “honor the part of New Orleans where the antique shops and the iron lace balconies give sightseers a glimpse into the romance of another day”. Even though this is one of my favorite cocktails, we will try to take it to the next level by testing it out, followed by two simple variations: the Près du Quai with Jamaican Rum, and the A La Louisiane with absinthe!
