An Elton John top ten single in 1974 and the opening track on his album "Caribou." It was also included on Greatest Hits Volume II. Lyricist Bernie Taupin's wife Maxine is credited with the phrase which inspired the song, referring to Elton's mood swings. Lenny Picket from Tower of Power played the sax solo, Dusty Springfield sang back up, and Tower of Power provided the horn section.
The album was named for the Caribou Ranch recording studio, where the album was recorded in January 1974. About the album producer Gus Dudgeon said it's "a piece of crap: the sound is the worst, the songs are nowhere, the sleeve came out wrong, the lyrics weren't that good, the singing wasn't all there, the playing wasn't great, the production is just plain lousy."! Yet it was a #1 album in both the USA and the UK.
