Tool ID (TiD) is the ideal first step towards digital tool management and tracking for those who want to adopt an Industry 4.0 approach of connected processes to create a robust, closed loop workshop.
TiD provides a unique identification system for quick and easy data transfer and control between machines, NC controls, presetters and other shop-floor equipment. The solution uses a handheld scanner at the presetter to scan and read a data matrix tag (similar to a QR code) located on the tool assembly. A similar scanner is located at the machine tool, connected to either a local touchscreen console on which the TiD software is running.
The tool data remains centralised within the TiD database and is transferred between presetter and machine tool table with minimal operator intervention. The end result is a smooth and reliable process, with minimal room for error and full data traceability.
