Security for the Atlanta Olympic Games has been intensified after the explosion on Wednesday (17/7) which destroyed TWA flight 800 off Long Island, New York. Both spectators and competitors arriving in Atlanta face delays, as security at the airport and Olympic venues is increased. More police are patrolling the airport and any vehicle regarded as suspicious is immediately being towed away.

William Waugh, Terrorism Expert, SOT: "They (the organisers) say it's the most secure games in history. It's very likely that we're all becoming so sophisticated, in terms of responding to terrorism, that it would be very difficult for terrorists to attack a venue or the Olympic village and those sorts of things."

Don Mischer, International Olympic Committee, SOT:"I have worked along with heads of state on big events and things like that and I have never seen security as tight as the security at Olympic Stadium. So I have to say yes, it has heightened my anxiety a little bit. I also have confidence that our security system is gonna rise to the task."
