Some heavy testing by Jason Woodard on two Katana - one,a 1060 monotempered blade and the other, a 5160 differentially hardened blade.
Usually 5160 is a stronger steel than 1060, but only when monotempered. When differentially hardened, it fails on a steel pole where the monotempered 1060 blade comes away relatively unscathed.
But all swords meet their end at the granite block of doom. We destroy swords so that you don't have to.
