This weeks pick is Invitae Corp, ticker NVTA. Invitae is a genetics testing and health information sharing network company. Ever since Crisper concept was created, we have realized that your genes can give you clues into your risk of developing disease and if it turns out that you have an increased risk of a condition, there are steps you can take to help you stay healthy. So Eating right, exercising, and getting routine checkups are great for the average person. But what if you’re not average? Your genes can tell you if there’s something more you should be doing to improve your health or stay healthy. 1 in 6 healthy adults is at increased risk for a serious health condition due to their genetics and probably doesn't even know it. So with invitae you request a test on their site, you just provide a sample of your saliva and send it back to their lab. Then get your results and share them with your doctor. And If you'd like, you can talk to a genetic counselor at no extra cost. They offer 3 testing products, a cancer screen test that looks at 61 different genes associated with common cancers, a cardo screen looking at 75 genes to assess risks of heart disease and a genetic health screen test that looks at 147 genes including cancer and cardio screens as well as a few actionable inherited conditions. Also invitae is acquiring citizen, A patient mediated platform for data sharing that allows patients to collect and store their medical records, and turns documents into usable, computable and relevant longitudinal data that can be shared with whomever they consent. There are a lot of challenges with the current system that this will try to fix the gap. So the 1st step is it would collect all medical documents, then my digitizing them all on a AI and machine learning platform that allows you to take it to anywhere you go. You never know which issue can be tied with another condition and having a platform with everything together will help doctors talk together. Trust is the foundation with their strategy allowing patients to own and control their data. This system opens them up to a variety of partnerships and ecosystem players. Ok so how are they doing. Well their revenue exploded from just over 60 million when covid hit to almost doubling close to 120 million. They have 1.54 billion cash as of june 30th with a quarterly burn rate of 256 million. Even though their revenue was grown, their profits have not, they have missed on the last 3 quarters and that maybe why the stock fell so much. Its down from highs of 57 this past December and January and currently in the mid 20s, sitting 2 bucks away from a 52 week low. Could be a great time to load up if you believe in this kind of technology because it is a long term no brainer.
