Chinese Tech Company Cracks Apple Airdrop Encryption
A Chinese tech company has successfully cracked the encryption around Apple's Airdrop wireless file sharing function.
Beijing-based Wangshendongjian Technology helped police track down people who used the service to send "inappropriate information" in the Beijing subway.
The company's breakthrough allowed the identification of senders' mobile phone numbers and email addresses, preventing the further spread of inappropriate remarks and potential bad influence.
Airdrop has been used for spreading anonymous messages critical of the Chinese government, including during rare protests against Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Apple began to limit Airdrop sharing with non-contacts for devices in China in November 2022, expanding the feature globally later on.
This development raises concerns about privacy and security in wireless file sharing and its potential impact on global tech companies.
