This is a video interactive activity that is geared towards food safety, microbiology, and the epidemiology of food borne illnesses. This lesson is an exciting way to introduce bacteria and their functions to your students! In the Coopdeville video, a local newscaster tells the story of how four citizens attend a local barbeque and later become ill from a mysterious food borne pathogen. Student volunteers will later role play each of the four citizens during their individual doctor visits. The information that the ill patients give to
a physician, along with other information ("Food Pathogen index" and "Helpful
Websites"), will be used by students to determine the identity of the pathogenic bacteria that caused the illnesses and what food source it came from.
