(30 Aug 2017) 74TH VENICE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OPENS WITH MATT DAMON'S "DOWNSIZING"
Despite being a Venice regular, Wednesday (30 AUG. 2017) marked a first for Matt Damon – as his movie "Downsizing" opened the 74th Venice International Film Festival.
The movie is the actor's first of two films screening in competition and "Downsizing," directed by Alexander Payne sees Damon in a drama with a science-fiction premise and a humanist heart.
The actor was joined on the red carpet by his wife Luciana Barroso, director Payne and co-star Kristen Wiig.
Also on the red carpet ahead of the festival's official opening ceremony was jury president Annette Bening, joined by fellow members Rebecca Hall, David Stratton, Jasmine Trinca, Edgar Wright, Yonfan, Ildiko Enyedi, Anna Mouglalis and Michel Franco.
The 74th Venice International Film Festival opens Wednesday with 21 films screening in competition and vying for the Golden Lion award.
