India Reports a Rise in Tree & Forest Cover | Subscribe to Firstpost
India has reported a gain in its tree cover and forest cover. According to the biennial India State of Forest Report (ISFR 2023), India gained 156 square kilometres in forest cover while tree cover extended by 1,289 square kilometres since 2021. Tree patches smaller than one-hectare account for tree cover. The report was released by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav. India’s tree cover now extends over 3.41%, while forest cover stands at 21.76%, comprising 112,014 square kilometres of land.
