Before Mystery Models were Mystery Cars. I open up 24 packs from 2007. That was the first year for the black-blister Mystery Cars. They did not have a peek hole at that time but by 2010, Mattel started punching a hole in the back of the package so that we could get a glimpse of the model.
The reason for the peek hole is that people were ripping open the packages in the stores trying to see what car was inside. Stores did not like having to deal with it. Really, collectors don't like buying extra packages and keep getting the same car anyway.
