We are (and always have been) in need of the holistic gospel because in its fullness, a holistic gospel offers a holistic spirituality. Both involve and are rooted in the love of God, love of neighbor, and love of creation. As our beloved brother would remark, “If you love God, take care of the creation.” Today’s episode is in remembrance and honor of Peter Illyn.
The Evangelical environmentalist Peter Illyn passed away last week. His passing has left a hole in many people’s hearts. He was a mighty man of God, a cultural maverick, and someone with an amazing, off-the-wall sense of humor and larger-than-life personality. Our hearts go out to his wife Debbie and their family.
In honor of Peter, Ryan Juskus and Jason Stuckey have agreed to join me. Ryan knew Peter well. Jason did not ever have the opportunity to meet him, but shares Peter’s deep sense of admiration for the creation. Ryan is a doctoral student at Duke Divinity School, focusing on Peter’s work with Restoring Eden. Jason, whose PhD is from Stanford in environmental science, heads up Multnomah University’s environmental studies program.
