First debuting in 1953, Ian Fleming’s James Bond became one of the world’s most famous literary spies bringing new depth, reality, and brutality to a long-loved genre. Moving into the 1960s, Bond became a global phenomenon, when Fleming’s books began being adapted into box-office smashing motion pictures. As the longest continually running American film franchise of all time, Bond has been portrayed, officially, by six actors, and unofficially by two. In this video, we’ll trace the inception and creation of James Bond, spotlight his impact on world culture and entertainment – and touch on the various iterations that have been spun on the character over almost 70 years.
