Powerhouse fiddler Benton Flippen (1920-2011) was from Surry County, NC. This short clip features a close-up of his syncopated bowing and uniquely slippery left-hand technique. "Mississippi Sawyer" was recorded at an informal tune session in September 2009 during Benton's second appearance at the Berkeley Oldtime Music Convention in California.
