The British Red Cross in Southern Africa
Across southern Africa, the British Red Cross provides support and assistance to vulnerable communities affected by HIV and lack of access to clean water, sanitation and food.
The countries of the region are varyingly affected by the inability to access food. In 2002/3 and 2005/6 the British Red Cross supported people suffering from food emergencies by launching the Southern Africa Food Crisis Appeal.
The region consistently experiences some of the highest rates of HIV in the world. We continue to work with communities and families to provide care and support to those affected by HIV and strengthen longer term access to food.
The Wellington Appeal
HCA are an American owned private hospital group, who own six UK hospitals. HCA has chosen The British Red Cross and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to work with this next year to raise significant income through a range of fundraising events one of them being the Wellington Challenge. The 'Wellington Challenge' will involve a mass-participation sponsored run and walk in October 2010 for staff of HCA. The event will be followed by a fundraising gala dinner. Funds raised will be equally split between the two charities. The money raised for the BRCS will go towards their ongoing HIV/AIDS work in South Africa.
