The second stunner of the day was delivered by BJP president JP Nadda, who declared that Mr. Fadnavis should be deputy chief minister. He said, "He must be Deputy Chief Minister. I shall approach him directly." The first was Mr. Fadnavis's declaration that Eknath Shinde, and not he, would serve as Maharashtra's chief minister. At the time, Mr. Fadnavis declared, "I would not occupy any role in the government." He previously held the position of Chief Minister for two terms, and Uddhav Thackeray's resignation as prime minister last night was largely the result of his passion project.
