Facebook has made some massive announcements affecting the rules around posts in the contentious lead up to the 2020 US Presidential Election.
The announcements say Facebook will not be accepting new political ads in the week before the election, and will remove posts claiming people will get COVID-19 if they take part in voting.
The social media platform has also said it will attach an information label to content which seeks to delegitimise the outcome of the election or the legitimacy of voting methods.
Under the new rules, any candidate wants to declare victory before results are in it will be censored.
Sky News host Paul Murray says these announcements matter because “It is the place where people either go into their bubbles and hear certain messages, or it’s the place where it’s just easier to flick flick flick what’s going on.
“That’s why it is breaking news tonight about how they are planning to present the news in the lead up to that election.”
