This video is PART 4 of a five-part series on the root word USAP (talk, speak). It is the root word that is formed into verbs that convey a conversation, a discussion or agreement. This is a follow up video series on a previous topic on the root word SALITA (talk, speak) and the verb created from it, MAGSALITA (to deliver a talk, to deliver a speech).
As a root word, USAP when combined with AFFIXES create new words like:
• USAPAN… agreement
• USAPIN… issue or topic
• PAG-UUSAP… discussion, conversation
• PAKI-USAP… request, plea
In the last three videos, we discussed the following verbs:
• MAG-USAP… to talk to each other or to converse with each other
• KUMAUSAP… to speak with or to talk to an UNSPECIFIED person
• MAGKAUSAP… TO BE talking to or TO BE speaking with someone.
• KAUSAPIN… to talk to or to converse with a SPECIFIC PERSON.
• PAG-USAPAN…to talk about or to discuss something
IN THIS VIDEO, we will discuss the following INFINITIVE VERBS created from the root word USAP:
• MAKI-USAP…to ask or request someone a favor; to plead with someone; to beg
• PAKI-USAPAN… to ask or request someone a favor; to plead with someone; to beg
THEY BOTH MEAN THE SAME! What’s the difference? The difference is in the FOCUS.
MAKI-USAP focuses on the ACTOR or the DOER of the action. PAKI-USAPAN focuses on the OBJECT of the action.
