"With the Russian aggression against Ukraine, we saw what was already a very difficult situation around the world, when it came to food insecurity get even worse already with climate change, with COVID, we'd seen significant impacts on the supply of food, including grain including fertilizer as well as price, but the Russian aggression exacerbated that dramatically, and we're now in a situation where we have more than 200 million people around the world who are severely food insecure. From day one we have worked to counteract that crisis and that situation."

"In the assembly of the OAS (Organization of American States), we have also listened to the presentation of President Zelenskyy, who asks for support for the fight that he is leading (against Russia) and in that context, the Peruvian foreign policy, we reiterate the support, in the way (we) also to look for a dialogue solution, to promote dialogue, a humanitarian dialogue above all for the people that in every war, it is always the civilian people who are the most affected."

STORYLINE:
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday met with Peruvian President Pedro Castillo and held a joint briefing with Foreign Minister Cesar Landa.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 52nd General Assembly of the Organization of American States in Lima.
Blinken reiterated that Russia's invasion of Ukraine had exacerbated an already exisiting food insecurity crisis globally, adding that "200 million people around the world...are severely food insecure."
He also underscored the importance of his meetings in Peru, saying development issues and the cooperation agenda between the two countries were discussed.
Landa, meanwhile, called for dialogue as means to work towards stopping the war in Ukraine.
Blinken's Latin American tour ends in Peru, and he is expected to return to the United States on Friday.
