After the issue of same sex marriages lingered at various high court, finally the Supreme Court has issued notice on a petition seeking recognition of same sex marriages. The case pertains to a a PIL seeking legal recognition of same sex marriages in India under the Special Marriages Act, 1954.
From the perspective of civil rights, there is so much more that the community demands. Homosexuality has been merely decriminalized in India, that means individuals with alternate sexuality cannot be prosecuted for indulging into sexual behaviors which are natural them. We are still far away from such individuals or couples having other civil rights like -adoption, succession or even having the possibility of having a joint bank account.
