. Silicon-controlled rectifiers essentially act as switches that once they're triggered, they always stay on unless power to them is removed.
SCRs have three terminals:
Anode - Generally is the input terminal
Cathode - Generally is the output terminal
Gate - The "switch" of the SCR. A small current is needed to operate the gate.
SCRs act like diodes; they are unidirectional and only allow current in one direction (from anode to cathode).
