A docuseries intended to respond to the Netflix "Making A Murderer" series is now airing on the Daily Wire+ streaming service. The 10-episode project, called "Convicting a Murderer," is the product of six years of work by director Shawn Rech. Like the extremely popular "Making a Murderer," it looks at the killing of Calumet County photographer Teresa Halbach and the prosecutions of Steven Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey.
In Convicting a Murderer, Candace Owens sets the record straight by exposing hidden evidence and scrutinizing the blood in the victim’s vehicle, the notorious key, and other moments represented differently in the original series. You’ll also hear shocking, unedited phone calls and testimonials revealing the truth. Police reports from Avery’s younger years unveil a significantly more alarming criminal history than previously disclosed, and the intentions of the Making a Murderer filmmakers begin to come to light.
About my guest: Shawn Rech is a documentary director and producer. He's most known for creating films that document wrongful convictions and over-sentencing. Three of his project's subjects have been released from prison. He also frequently examines the role of journalism in the justice system.
His first film, "A Murder in the Park" (Showtime/Netflix) was named to Time Magazine's list "The 15 most fascinating true crime stories ever told." He is also the director of “White Boy,” another critically acclaimed documentary.
He is the founder of the streaming network TRU BLU and journalist Chris Hansen, known for "To Catch a Predator" and "The Takedown with Chris Hansen."
The Netflix series Making a Murderer portrayed convicted criminal Steven Avery as an innocent victim of corrupt law enforcement in the murder of Teresa Halbach.
