The Allahabad High Court has temporarily stayed the survey ordered by a Varanasi court of the Gyanvapi mosque complex and listed the matter for hearing at 3.30 pm on Thursday.

The Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee, which is the caretaker for the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, had filed a plea in the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday, challenging a Varanasi court order last week directing the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a scientific survey of the mosque to ascertain whether the “present structure” was “constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple”. The court of Chief Justice Pritinker Diwaker heard the plea.
