Today I am demonstrating how to tie dye a 50 shades of purple (or 4😏) ripple variant pattern t-shirt using the ice dye technique. As always the t-shirt dress has first been washed and soaked in soda ash (1 cup of soda ash per 1 gallon of warm water) and then spun out in the washer so that the material is damp but not sopping wet. To begin I start with the drawing of the ripple design on to the t-shirt. Next I move on to the pleat folding and folding of the t-shirt to create the ripple variant pattern. To finish up the tying portion of the t-shirt I then secure the t-shirt with rubber bands and kite string.
Now that the t-shirt is all tied up, I apply the fiber reactive procion dye powder (colors used are shown in the video), directly on top of the tied up t-shirt, a thin layer of soda ash on top of the dye powder, and then ice right on top of the soda ash. Next I let the t-shirt sit undisturbed for 24 hours. When the 24 hours are up I give the t-shirt a good rinse while squeezing the material until the water runs clear to remove the excess dye. Now it's finally time to remove the rubber bands and kite string to reveal our new tie dye 50 shades of purple (or 4😏) ripple variant pattern t-shirt. Thanks for watching and Happy Tie Dyeing!
