On May 5th at the Hoover Dam, Daimler Trucks North America introduced the first licensed autonomous commercial truck in the United States. The Freightliner Inspiration Truck has the ability to maintain legal speeds, stay in its selected lane, keep safe distances between other vehicles and can slow down or stop based on traffic and road conditions. However, it does need to have a driver present and that driver has the option to take over operations when needed. The Inspiration was revealed at a news conference where the truck was eventually driven onto the top of the Hoover Dam which it did not do autonomously due to tight turns.
