The garden of Gethsemane is also referred to as the garden of the olive-crushing press. Both gospel writers Matthew and Mark mention this as they explain the immensity of Jesus’ struggle there as He pleaded with the Father to find another way to redeem the world. But our Savior still willingly went through the excruciatingly painful process of being “crushed” for our sins to offer us full forgiveness and salvation. This olive press, which breaks the skin of olives to get to the oil, gives a visual understanding of the burden Jesus carried for us.
