Just this week, Scientific American put out an article saying the flu has virtually disappeared worldwide during the coronavirus pandemic.
But, here in Alabama we could be seeing an uptick in flu activity.
During the pandemic, we’ve been focused on all things coronavirus. One thing we haven’t heard much about? The flu. Cases have been historically low over the past year, but Alabama Department of Health says those cases could be on the rise again.

We met with Alabama Department of Public Health Assistant State Health Officer, Dr. Karen Landers. She says, “We do see influenza year round. We certainly see it less in the spring and summer, but we’re seeing it creep up just a little bit…”
Dr. Karen Landers says ADPH has been keeping an eye on flu numbers.
The department says there has been an increase in influenza-like activity over the past three weeks.
This year’s flu numbers have been low as people took steps to protect themselves from COVID-19.
